Building Climate-Resilient Forests: Forestry England’s New Seed Processing Centre (England)

In September 2025, Forestry England inaugurated its new state-of-the-art seed processing centre at Delamere in Cheshire. The Minister for Nature, Mary Creagh officially opened the new timber-framed, net-zero facility, designed to process up to four tonnes of tree seeds annually – a significant investment in the UK’s forestry sector. This landmark investment marks a significant step in the UK’s strategy to secure climate-resilient forests for future generations – a mission that BCC Plant The Planet is proud to support.

Forests are at the frontline of climate change. They provide clean air, capture carbon, regulate water, and create vital habitats for wildlife. But they also face unprecedented challenges from rising temperatures, extreme weather events, pests, and diseases. To meet these challenges, the genetic foundation of tomorrow’s forests must be carefully managed – starting with seeds.

The new facility is equipped with advanced technologies provided by BCC including cone dryers for conifer seeds, gravity separators to sort and grade seed material, and climate-controlled storage capable of preserving both conifer and broadleaf seeds for up to 20 years. By securing seed quality and diversity, Forestry England is preparing millions of trees to thrive under future climate conditions.

At BCC, we are honored that our technology has been chosen to play a role in this important journey. We are committed to supporting Forestry England with equipment and expertise that enable efficient, sustainable, and scalable seed processing. Together, we are laying the groundwork for forests that are stronger, more diverse, and better adapted to the world of tomorrow.

This is not only about trees – it is about ensuring resilient landscapes, safeguarding biodiversity, and creating a sustainable legacy for generations to come.
