Clean Seeds – The Foundation for High-Quality Seedlings

Producing strong, healthy and uniform seedlings starts long before the seed is sown. The quality of the seed, and how carefully it is handled and processed, creates the foundation for the entire growing process.

After harvesting, cones and seed lots need to go through several processing steps before the seed is ready for sowing. A well-controlled process removes unwanted material and prepares the seed for efficient handling and further nursery production. BCC provides equipment covering the complete cone and seed processing chain, including pre-cleaning, drying, extraction, dewinging, cleaning and sizing.

From cone to clean seed

Each step has an important role in preparing the seed lot. Cones are dried to support the extraction process, after which the seeds can be separated, cleaned and sized. The objective is not simply to process large quantities, but to handle the material carefully and consistently throughout the process.

For seed extraction, for example, the BCC Cone Tumbler can operate in either continuous or batch mode. Variable drum speed and adjustable inclination allow the processing time to be adapted, helping achieve a balance between processing rate and process quality. Different mesh sizes are also available for different species and processing requirements.
